I live on a lagoon off of Lake Erie in Huron, Ohio, moving here with Saundra and our 2 children from Colorado in 1972. Saundra was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2009 and passed peacefully on 25 June 2017 at Symphony of Olmsted Falls, Ohio.
I have been blessed with an exciting and rewarding career as a scientist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and my own company, working throughout the world to resolve conflicts between wildlife and people. I presently am President of Dolbeer Wildlife Consulting, LLC, and serve as a Science Adviser for the USDA and Federal Aviation Administration. I have a passion for my work and no desire to retire at this time. I most recently presented 2 papers at an aviation safety conference in Portland, Oregon in August 2025. Follow these links to four of my recent publications, including a book on blackbirds published by CRC Press in 2017 (highlight the link and right click):

Recent projects include advising the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey on Canada Goose management; giving keynote address at Australian aviation safety conference; helping to teach a course in wildlife management for AviAssist Foundation in Tanzania; presenting a paper on "Benchmarking airport performance in mitigating wildlife hazards" in Stavanger, Norway; advising the Mexican government on bird hazards at airports and in the design of a new international airport for Mexico City; serving as a part-time instructor for a course "Wildlife management at airports" at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Worldwide; and advising the Cleveland Clinic Foundation regarding wildlife issues in Cleveland and Florida.
Saundra (who retired in 2007 after owning and operating Wee People Nursery School for many years) was able to accompany me on many trips until the summer of 2014. I spend as much time as possible with our daughters, sons-in law, and 6 grandchildren. I also manage my 60-acre farm, Bluebird Haven, in Huron County, Ohio (www.bluebirdhaven.org). I enjoyed jogging until I had a hip-joint replacement in 2020 (last race was with my son-in-law in the Snowball 5K race in February 2020--12 degrees F). Now I try to walk 5 miles (10,000 steps) each day for my exercise.
I published a memoir in September 2025: https://www.amazon.com/LIFE-WILD-SIDE-RICHARD-DOLBEER/dp/B0FSTFPHHB
